Warts are caused by a virus known as human papillomavirus or HPV. The virus can be transmitted from person-to-person and warts are contagious.
What do warts look like
The warts are small, solid, non-cancerous tumors. Some are white and some have little black dots. There are various forms of the HPV virus and various forms of warts. Therefore, warts present themselves very differently on each individual. Warts can appear on your hands, your feet, genitals or your face. Warts are unattractive and can be painful.
Getting rid of warts
Over-the-counter products can help to get rid of warts, such as salicylic acid. However, if the wart is persistent, many people will visit their doctor to have their warts removed. One of the more popular ways to remove warts is to freeze them with silver nitrate. However, numerous creams are available for this purpose also. Non-traditional theories have been discussed as well, such as cimetidine or duct tape.
Should you choose not to visit your doctor to remove warts, they may disappear on their own. However, it is unknown when or how long it will take.
